Last updated on 20 Jan, 2011

Summary:

Mahon has been selected as the location for 150 high tech jobs showing once again that we can compete with any other location in Europe when it comes to attracting investment and jobs, according to local Fianna Fáil TD, Micheál Martin.

“The news is a major boost to the local economy, as well as the direct jobs the 150 extra wages will have knock on effects which will benefit other businesses in Mahon and in Cork generally. Quest Software is a world leader and its arrival in Mahon means that eight of the World’s top 10 software firms have bases here in Ireland.”

“Years of investment in infrastructure and in the local workforce have ensured that we are in a position to attract quality jobs to Mahon. Quest joins McAfee and other high tech firms which are employing over 8,000 people in Cork.”

“As a former Education, Enterprise and Foreign Affairs Minister I prioritised efforts to bring companies of this calibre to Ireland.”

“Quest is establishing an international shared services centre which will be at the forefront of the companies development worldwide. The California based company is by any standard a major player, it has 60 offices in 23 countries giving work to 3,400 people. Now Mahon joins that impressive network.”

“The new jobs will be in finance, software renewals, inside sales and software development.”

“The company has cited the significant presence of other software technology firms, high quality infrastructure, the availability of skilled and trained professionals and the Irish pro-business environment which made Mahon surpass all other locations for these jobs,” concluded Deputy Martin.
