Cork Carers receive Senior Alert Funding
Last updated on 04 Jan, 2011
Summary:
The Cork Carers Association and three other groups in the city and county are receiving support under the latest round of funding from the Government’s Senior Alert Scheme, according to Minister Micheál Martin, TD.
“Over €14,000 will be made available to help the groups provide alarms and other measures to help make the homes of local older people safer and more secure. The Senior Alert Scheme helps ensure that pensioners in Cork can live in comfort and security in their own homes in their local areas where they have family and friends.”
“It allows for the installation of fire and security alarms, as well as systems to alert family and neighbours if something were to go wrong.”
“The groups which are being provided with grants are:
•Carers Association Cork €4,225
•Coachford Care of the Aged €1,399
•Cobh Community Care €3,108
•Fermoy Neighbourhood Watch €5,316
They join the large number of Cork community and voluntary groups which have received support over the past 12 months. Nationally the homes of 6,306 older people received improvements during 2010.”
“In Cork we are fortunate to have a large number of groups which look after the needs of pensioners in their local areas and ensure that they receive frequent visits. This work has been particularly important during the continuing cold weather. The money will be made available quickly to ensure that Cork’s older people will enjoy the benefits at an early date”, concluded Minister Martin.
